Hong Kong independent short documentary“Creativity is”

Celebrating creativity within ourselves

What is Creativity? Are you Creative? These are the two questions the Hong Kong independent short documentary, Creativity is, explores through a group of students and six individuals –an inventor (Cesar Jung-Harada of MakerBay), a psychologist (Professor Chiu Chi-Yue, Dean of Faculty of Social Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong), an activist (Ren Wan of JupYeah), a startup entrepreneur (Quinn Lai of EONIQ), a yoga teacher (Maggie Lin, Cofounder of nose hk), and a spatial designer (Dylan Kwok of Hong Kong Design Centre).

It is not hard to imagine the suffocation of our creativity in Hong Kong, disturbed and bombarded with expectations of the older generation, interference of the Internet, oppression of urban space and all other negativity around. Directed by Sharon Yeung, a Hong Kong independent filmmaker, and produced by CNEX, the 25-minute documentary launches into a whirl through numerous ideas on creativity from how our mind works, to our obsessions and fears. It then explores the possibilities of what we can do to rediscover the creativity within ourselves.

About the director, Sharon Yeung

Sharon is an independent filmmaker. She grew up in Hong Kong, studied film in Los Angeles, and worked on commercials in Beijing. She is now docked at Hong Kong again, while occasionally city-hopping around Asia, shooting documentaries and creating new media projects. Her current project, Creativity is, spans over a year, evolving from a short documentary to a personal screening experience and now an upcoming new media interactive experience online. Her other immersive media project, MADE, is recently selected for the 2017 Sheffield Documentary Festival. In the gaps between film projects, Sharon likes to host screenings and salons to connect minds around issues we care about.
