Dialogue - Let's Share

We would like to express our gratitude to Sham Shui Po District Council for the sponsorship of this Sham Shui Po District Multiethnic Cultural Festival Public Educational Exhibition  and Workshops.

Through curating this exhibition, I have more opportunities to learn the culture of diverse ethnic minorities, and to understand the cultural meanings and their communities.

The theme of this exhibition is Dialogue - Let's Share. neo-confucianist scholar Tu Weiming proposed the concept of of '"Dialogue among Civilizations." in 21 century, to promote the universal communication and exchange among different cultural groups and civilizations. Hong Kong is one of the international cities which consists different language, culture, habits and faiths.

Through dialogue, we can not only better understand to others, and also to solve the misunderstanding. Another scholar, Habermas suggested the conditions of communication, include the Truth claim (objective world), Rightness claim (social world) and Sincerity claim (subjective world). Through these dimensions, we can reach mutual understanding.

「吾」in Chinese implies 'I'. Interestingly, the pronounciation of「吾」in cantonese mean 'NOT'. Not sharing is not the central theme of this exhibition.

This exhibition aims to resonate the multiethnic culture of "I" and "WE", which further reminds us that our community is consisted of diverse groups.

Through exhibiting in various ways, we invite audiences to engage in dialogue by meeting the art works, our inner reflections, to recreate our community and natural environment.

May be it is the spirits of humanism by treating others and natural environment as ourselves. It ehcoes with educator,Paulo Freire's suggestion that dialogue needs love, humility, trust, hope and critical thinking.

Let's participate exhibition and, to  extend our lives.

Dialogue is not only by words or speaking, Arts is a  way to 'enhance our life, by non communicative language to express thoughts and feelings'(American Art Therapy Association). There are seven NGOs participated this exhibition and workshops. Furthermore, we are delighted to have an artist, Professor Kanta Ann Kochhar, to interact, have dialogue with audiences and moving in and beyond Shamshuipo. The exhibited art works include PhotoVoice, 3 minutes Stories (video) ; Wall of Rememberance (installation); Furure Artists (galleries) , Cultural sensitivity training and cultural tour (Photos).Through making art works, they express their expereinces, thoughts and feelings. We invite audiences to listen their stories, have dialogue with Professor Kanta Ann Kochhar, and enrol our cultural workshops.
